Blacklist Countries

ClearIP can be used to blacklist individual countries.

The full list of countries and associated country codes recognized by ClearIP is available for reference in the Country/Location Mappings page under the Configuration menu.

ClearIP typically considers each unique country code as a separate country with a few exceptions. United States phone numbers are identified by having a designated US area code. Canadian phone numbers are identified by having a designated Canadian area code. Individual Caribbean Islands, Puerto Rico, Satellite Phone Numbers, and International Freephone numbers are each considered separate countries.

Blacklist Specific Called Country

If your subscribers tend to not have high international call volumes, then you also have the option to blacklist a default set of high risk countries for all subscribers. A blacklist rule can be created for each individual country.

Any subscriber calling one of those countries will immediately be blocked with a SIP 603. Blacklist Called Country

Create Blacklist Exception for Specific Subscriber

If any subscriber should be allowed to make calls to a blacklisted country, then you can create a specific exception for the subscriber and the called country. You can restrict the rule to apply to the specific subscriber’s calling number. Blacklist Called Country Exception

Disable Fraud Analysis on Domestic Calls

If ClearIP should not perform fraud analysis on domestic calls, then you should create a rule in the Called Countries page for your desired country and set the Action to Bypass Fraud Analysis. ClearIP will not perform fraud analysis on these calls. Bypass Fraud Analysis

You can allow fraud analysis on calls to specific areas within the domestic country by setting rules in the Called Numbers, Called SPIDs, or Called Locations page and setting the Action to Continue. These rules will take priority over the rules in the Called Countries page.

In this example, fraud analysis is enabled on calls to specific states within the United States by creating rules in the Whitelist/Blacklist Called Locations page. Blacklist called locations domestic

Blacklist all International Calls

If the majority of your customers should not be allowed to make any international calls at all, then you can create rules to blacklist all international calls outside of selected allowed countries.

Blacklist Called Country All International

In this example, fraud analysis is disabled for calls to the United States. Subscribers are allowed to make calls to Canada, Mexico, and Puerto Rico, but those calls will be monitored by ClearIP’s fraud triggers. Any calls to a destination outside of United States, Canada, Mexico, and Puerto Rico will match on the blank wildcard Called Country rule and will be immediately blocked unless there is an exception rule made.

Build SIP Reports to check which countries your customers call

Before you create country level blacklists for your subscribers, you can check the SIP Reports to review which countries your customers tend to call. Then you can compare your called countries list with the complete list of countries recognized by ClearIP to build a Called Country blacklist.

For example, you may want to go ahead and blacklist any country that has not been called in the past year or so. In this screenshot, the SIP Report shows that calls have been made to 20 different countries. ClearIP recognizes more than 250 possible country values, so there are at least 230 countries that have not been called recently and could be potentially added into the blacklist. You can export the SIP Report and Countries list as an Excel spreadsheet to make the comparison easier.
